Mystic or not?

In one of the many books I have been reading the author said a true mystic begins thinking about God the minute they wake up. Hmmm. Does it matter what I think about God; how I think about God. I'm afraid I mostly think how I won't do as much that day to know him as I would like. My fault completely but I do think about him.

A friend of mine in my sculpture class is taking a religious studies class at CSUF and I asked her what it's about today. She said it's about all the religions that include the mystics, except Christianity. She said that there are some Christian denominations that include mysticism, but they are seen as blasphemous because mysticism means people think they are God as much as God is God.
I have been hearing/reading about Christian mystics here and there lately, but I didn't feel informed enough to argue with her. Can you tell me more about what you have been reading?

I'll get back to you with what I hope is an organized effort.
