Give fair judgment to the poor and the orphan;uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
Rescue the poor and helpless;
deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
But these oppressors know nothing;
they are so ignorant!
And because they are in darkness,
the whole world is shaken to the core.

I hope that our oncoming economic crisis motivates the church to give more attention to the poverty, of all kinds, around the world. We are so fat and happy here in the U.S. that most of us don't give much thought to what is happening around the world. We have no frame of reference for starvation and desperation.
It's been demonstrated the less well-off in church tend to give a higher percentage of their income. Maybe we'll start to see more of that as we get a community sense of economic discomfort. Maybe by putting our pinkie toe in the economic condition of most of the world, we will move toward true compassion.
